Cheap Computer stuff in Mexico City

People living in Mexico who have as unhealthy an addiction to technology as i do tend to notice that the prices for tech are just a little bit this side of “are you fucking serious”

The 15% tax on things doesn’t help things either.

So what’s a junkie to do when he needs a HD, Ram, Mice, USB drive, fix?

Well let me tell you about one of the gems of this city. El mercado technologico Meave. It’s 3 or four blocks from Bellas Artes in the center of the city. It is like stepping into the Akibara district in Japan. It’s this robots wet dream. rows and rows of vendors hocking computer parts, wares. software, computers, memory, peripherals. It’s a beautiful, caotic, and a very nearly overwhelming part of this city. You have venders yelling at your from every side ” te doy precio amigo” (i’ll give you a good price friend) which is for the most part bullshit, the prices are all fairly standard and include a margin for some haggling.

For anyone looking to buy computer gear in Mexico stear clear of the office depos and department store electronic sections which easily mark everything up by 50%

an 8gb usb memory drive at office depot cost 650 pesos at Meave i bought it for $330 pesos. Not bad.
